I am a proud descendant of the Jittabal Tribe on my Mother’s side (Southern Tableland) and KuKu Djunkan Tribe (Western Tableland) on my Father’s side. I am a long term resident of Cairns as I grew up here and went to school at Cairns Central State School and Trinity Bay High School. I did a trade apprenticeship as a qualified Fitter and Turner in Brisbane.
After finishing my apprenticeship I worked as a Maintenance Fitter at Ford Motor Company Factory, on the Hamilton Wharf docks, at Besser Block Making Plant. I also did a stint working in northern New South Wales and central western Queensland in the mining industry. Then finally I sought employment within the Queensland Government Public Service, where I worked my way up into several Senior Policy and Program positions.
After leaving the Qld Public Service, I had the privilege of working in remote Indigenous communities as the Community Economic Development Manager for Coolgaree CDEP, Palm Island and as the Community Engagement Manager for Yarrabah Shire Council. I was employed as the Queensland State Manager of a National Indigenous Charity Organisation for a number of years. I am currently employed as the Executive Officer of UMI Arts Ltd for the past 5 years.
I bring a wealth of knowledge of the employment industry and the lived experience from an Indigenous perspective. I have an extensive network across all sectors and within Government circles. I am well known and respected in many circles.
I have served as a former member on the Qld Government FNQ Regional Disability Community Advisory Committee for over 10 years. I am a current a member of the Cairns based Central Queensland University Regional Engagement Committee.
As a respected member of the National Indigenous art community, I am constantly approached by many government committees and non-government interest groups wanting to gather insightful information on the welfare of the Indigenous art industry. I am a recognised leader of the local Indigenous community and am known and respected in many circles.
