MEDIA RELEASE
The Cairns Chamber of Commerce (CCoC) and Cairns Young Chamber (CYC) in conjunction with James Cook University (JCU) are excited to announce the 2022 Emerging Leaders Program is now open for Expressions of Interest.
The Emerging Leaders Program is far north Queensland’s premier leadership program for 35 year olds and under. It is a 12-month targeted leadership program that aims to provide aspiring leaders from across business, industry and the non-government sector an opportunity to gain insight into key opportunities and challenges facing our region and build their networks and leadership skills along the way.
The 2022 program has been revamped after a six-month strategic review led by the CCoC, CYC and JCU, with input from key stakeholders across the region.
The Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer, Patricia O’Neill, says she is excited to be working with the CYC, JCU, and other Chamber partners on the 2022 Emerging Leaders Program.
“The changes being introduced in 2022 bring what was already a peak program to the next level - it really is an international-class program that we will be delivering right here in Cairns,” Mrs O’Neill said.
Jesse O’Hara, Chair of the Cairns Young Chamber, says one of the key drivers behind stepping up the program in 2022 was to create more opportunities for young people to stay in the region.
“We want to see more young leaders attracted to our region, as well as see the talented young professionals and business leaders already here being offered opportunities to develop their careers without leaving the region,” said O’Hara.
The 2022 Emerging Leaders Program will commence in April 2022 and will conclude in February 2023. Successful applicants will be:
- Paired with a business or industry leader as part of the successful Emerging Leaders Mentoring Program, with mentors supporting participants on their journey throughout the program;
- Participate in five industry immersion days across the year;
- Have access to expert speakers exploring topics such as innovation and the machinery of government; health and education; defence and aviation; manufacturing and tourism; the environment and social entrepreneurship;
- Be welcomed in an exclusive network of like-minded individuals who are committed to building their leadership capacity and growing our region.
James Cook University has partnered with the Cairns Chamber of Commerce and Cairns Young Chamber since the programme’s inception. Dr David Craig, Director of the Cairns Campus, says that the Emerging Leaders Program fits perfectly with the JCU ethos.
“We have so many talented young people right here in Cairns, and JCU is proud to partner with the Chamber and Young Chamber to support our young leaders through the Emerging Leaders Program,” said Dr Craig.
Expressions of Interest open 14 February 2022 and close on 11 March 2022. For more information on the program and how to apply, visit https://www.cairnschamber.com.au/projects/2022-emerging-leaders-program
