The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be the largest sporting event in Australia this decade and Cairns will welcome international athletes to compete in six days of basketball competition as well as hosting a 12 day arts and cultural festival on the Cairns Esplanade – Festival 18. The Queens Baton Relay (QBR) will pass through our region from 15 – 17 March, bringing a spectacle to our Region.
Come along to our first luncheon of the year and hear from keynote speaker Liz Helps, leader of the Business and Community Engagement Program for the GC2018 Embracing 2018 Legacy Program. Her team ensure small businesses are able to identify and maximise the opportunities arising from the Games.
Cairns Regional Council and Toursim Tropical North Queenland (TTNQ) will also be discussing the impacts that GC2018 events will have on our region, what to expect, opportunities to be involved and impacts to business as usual.

ROSIE DOUGLAS
Rosie Douglas has over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality and tourism industry and has held senior management roles with Southern Pacific, Radisson and Vision hotel chains, pre-opening team at the Cairns Convention Centre and is currently Director of Business, Major and Regional events for Tourism Tropical North Qld.
JENNIFER THOMPSON
Jennifer has over 27 years experience in the tourism and events industries initially holding sales roles for Daikyo, Skyrail and Quicksilver Dive before opening event company A List Events for seventeen years. Recently, Jennifer joined the Cairns Regional Council as Events Development Officer, and is currently project lead on the upcoming Queen’s Baton Relay and Commonwealth Games activities in our region.
STEPHEN FOSTER
Stephen Foster has had over 25 years’ experience working in the Australian performing arts industry across a multitude of roles in touring, events and venue management. Stephen’s current role is the Manager of Cultural Services for Cairns Regional Council. Managing the regions extensive arts and cultural portfolio inclusive of the Cairns Festival, Tanks Arts Centre, Munro Martin Parklands, Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) development project and the Commonwealth Games arts and cultural centre piece “Festival 2018”
