Cultural Awareness Handbook LAUNCH

Wednesday, 17 Sep 2025
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Backyard at the Shangri-La

After months of consultation with community leaders, migrant workers and those from a refugee background, along with businesses and key organisations, the Cairns Regional Jobs Committee, in partnership with the Cairns Chamber of Commerce is proud to launch a Cultural Awareness Handbook for business.

This practical, locally informed guide aims to help employers build more inclusive, culturally aware workplaces across the Cairns region - to confidently hire, onboard and support culturally diverse employees.

The handbook draws on lived experience and highlights strategies for overcoming communication barriers, recognising cultural differences, understanding workplace expectations, and creating welcoming environments for all employees but particularly those from migrant, refugee or non-English speaking backgrounds.

Key features of the handbook include:

  • Tips for cross-cultural communication and managing language barriers
  • Guidance on cultural differences in eye contact, humour, time management and hierarchy
  • Practical onboarding advice and interview tips
  • Insights from local employers already seeing the benefits of diversity

Enjoy networking, canape's and beverages and pick up your copy of the new handbook.
