Australia is in its 27th year with no recession and growth continues to roll along, but this growth is uneven and patchy and risks are building.

  • What are the prospects for a continuing economic expansion?

STEPHEN KOUKOULAS: 

Stephen Koukoulas is National Expert in economics. He is Managing Director of Market Economics, a firm focused on independent macroeconomic analysis. 

Stephen has been working in economics for 30 years including in banking, financial markets, government and policy formulation.

Stephen has been the global head of economic research and strategy for TD Securities in London, Senior Economic Advisor to the former Prime Minister; Julia Gillard, worked in the Commonwealth Treasury.

Stephen also spent five years at Citibank Australia, including as Chief Economist. He started his career in the Commonwealth Treasury in the mid 1980s.

Stephen is currently a widely sought after keynote speaker, Economics Advisor to illion (formerly Dun & Bradstreet), a Research Fellow at Per Capita and writes regular analysis and opinion pieces for The Guardian, Yahoo 7 Finance and The Constant Investor.

BILL CUMMINGS:

Bill Cummings is a highly recognized regional business economist. He is the Principal Partner of Cummings Economics, an economic and market research business.

Bills career includes seven years in Canberra as a research officer with the Department of Trade and as the Research Officer of the Australian Chamber of Commerce. He also worked as the Manager of Ingham District Research & Promotion Bureau as the Manager of the Far North Queensland Development Bureau and its Sub Board for Tourism & Travel, known today as Tourism Tropical North Queensland.

Bill he has served on numerous boards and committees over the years, including Deputy Chairman of the North Australia Development Council and on the Council of James Cook University of North Queensland.

RICK CARR:

Rick Carr is a highly recognized regional research expert. He is Research Director at Herron Todd White.

Rick’s is involved in economic research and consulting, on-going property market analysis and in the general fields of property and economic research.

He is also well-known as the author of the CairnsWatch monthly economic and market indicator publication, and is an expert commentator on the Cairns property markets.
