Adapting to the challenges of the future

Queensland Small Business Week (QSBW) celebrates the vital contribution small business makes to Queensland's vibrant economy.

Stephen Tait - CEO Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ)

Queensland’s Chamber of Commerce movement is 150 years old, but is it still relevant today? And what does the future hold?  From navigating the cut-and-thrust of the UK and Australian publishing industries, CCIQ Chief Executive Stephen Tait has spent the past 6 years moulding the Queensland Chamber into an active, effective and customer-focused operation. It’s fair to say he has met a few challenges in the process. But with a growing customer base and record revenues, the industry body is somehow managing to avoid the death spiral many other member organisations have fallen into.

In this talk, Stephen will share the story of the state chamber’s remarkable turnaround, why chambers of commerce remain the beating heart of business, and what we all need to do to stop the demise of small and medium enterprise in Australia.

Stephen is fiercely committed to ensuring Queensland’s 400,000 small businesses continue to be the driving force of the state’s social and economic prosperity.

Throughout his period as CEO, CCIQ have supported Queensland small businesses in their desire to innovate and adapt to the challenges of the future economy while proactively advocating on their behalf with all levels of Government for the creation of the best possible business environment for its members and the broader business community.

Stephen is a noted speaker, passionate advocate and driver of change and represents CCIQ and the interests of Queensland business as a member of several Government, Enterprise and Non-Profit Boards.

Andrea Simmons - CEO Australia Anti Ice Campaing (AAIC)

Andre’a Simmons has owned and operated several successful businesses throughout her life and has achieved her milestone by becoming a millionaire by age 21.

After having a life changing experience and loosing everything, including almost her life to the drug ICE, Andre’a began devoting her life to the needs of those suffering from ICE addiction. This passion led her to begin educating others on the dangers and effects of ICE use.

Over the past year, Andre’a has communicated nationally with service providers to act as a referral point for addicts & families in need.

Andre’a is now implementing the Australian Anti Ice Campaign in Australia which is a proven role model program successfully run in the USA for the past ten years, reducing ICE use in 8 states by up to 80%. This Program consists of school based education, community forums, social media saturation, national billboards and TV commercials with outstanding results.
