Youth Jobs Path Employer Forum

Wednesday, 26 Jul 2017
2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Novotel Cairns

The Cairns Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Department of Employment, bring you the Employer Engagement Event.

This event is vital to provide information on the Departments Youth Jobs Path program and how you as a business owner can benefit from this subsidy.

The aim of the Youth Jobs Path Employer Forum is to engage with employers in the Cairns region who have entry level jobs and/or are interested in helping at risk young people obtain employment.

The Australian Government Department of Employment has made a commitment to help businesses hire young people (15-24) at increased risk of long-term unemployment

A big part of the Government’s Youth Employment Package is the three-part Youth Jobs PaTH (Prepare - Trial - Hire) program.

The three elements of Youth Jobs PaTH are:

  • Prepare - Employability skills training to help eligible young people understand the expectations of employers in the recruitment process and in the workplace.
  • Trial - voluntary Internships of four to 12 weeks to give eligible young people a chance to demonstrate their skills in the workplace where there is a reasonable prospect of subsequent employment. $1000 administration payment to employers. Intern remains off welfare payments with an additional $200 supplement payment. Insurance provided by the Australian Government.
  • Hire - a new Youth Bonus wage subsidy of up to $10,000 GST inclusive to support the employment of young people.

The flexible design of Youth Jobs PaTH means that the Prepare, Trial and Hire elements can be interchangeable.
