WHAT IS THE CBLA?

The Cairns Chamber of Commerce has proudly partnered with the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland and the UDIA Cairns Branch, to form the Cairns Business Leaders Alliance.

As like-minded membership-based organisations, we have come together to give members' voices even greater volume and resonance on key issues affecting businesses in Cairns. The Alliance is a temporary initiative, created for the purpose of affecting short-medium term economic change in the region through a combined lobbying effort and shared leadership of specific Cairns business community initiatives.
The agenda is driven by the wants and needs of our memberships and the wider business community.

Through the Cairns Business Leaders Alliance, we are determined to drive accountability and accomplish real outcomes for economic development and growth in our region

The "Enough is Enough!" Report Card Campaign

What it is
The Report Card campaign is about Cairns Business Keeping Score on government action and support on the issues affecting Cairns business right now, and about calling for urgent action on these key issues.

The Focus of the Campaign

There are 5 key topics on which the CBLA is focused, calling for action, and holding all levels of governments to account.

The 5 Priority Issues are:
1. Infrastructure Development
(Report Card live.)
2. Regional Development (Report Card live.)
3. Small Business (Action Card live.)
4. Red Tape Reduction(Report Card now live!)
5. Tourism Development(Report Card now live!)

The businesses of Cairns want and expect action in each of these areas.

Report Cards

The CBLA is releasing a Report Card, one at a time, for each of these key issues. Each Report Card grades the government's and opposition's progress against our key recommendations, based on the actions they've taken and the benefits delivered to the community of Cairns.

Each Report Card assesses the three levels of government as well as the Federal and State Opposition.

We report whether their actions, policies and progress (both actual and anticipated) are considered...

n Excellent
n Good
n Average
n Poor
n A Total Failure
n Undecided (perhaps because the "jury is still out")
...for the Cairns business community.

The Report Card scores and comments are based on the representative views of our organisations PLUS direct members' input from our online surveys, and so incorporate views from across the city and across the spectrum of businesses and industry sectors.

Measurement

Underpinning the Report Cards is a set of very clear and concise Position Papers stating:

n what we believe and recommend;
n why we believe it; and
n how we will measure it.

The Ultimate Purpose

The 'Enough is Enough' Report Card Campaign gives Cairns businesses the opportunity to assess the performance of government at all levels in delivering real strategies for the health and growth of Cairns, and provides a gauge for current political leaders and candidates seeking office of what is important to Cairns businesses and what action and support they need right now.

As membership-based organisations we believe it is our duty to our members to make government accountable for the actions they take and the decisions they make that affect our businesses, and as a result, our communities and our future.

Our 'Enough is Enough' Report Card campaign is a first step towards achieving that goal.
